String Pedagogy Workshop
During the summer of 2012, I participated in an independent study course with Dr. Brenda Brenner, Associate Professor of Music in the music education department. I attended sessions from the Violin and Viola Teachers Retreat, which covered everything from beginning to advanced string pedagogy with guest presenters from around the country. I also audited the Orchestral Rehearsal Techniques workshop, run by Dr. Brenner and Dr. Cliff Colnot, director of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Here is an collection of my notes from the summer workshops, with information that I look forward to using with future orchestra students. (K)
University of Indianapolis Conducting Workshop
In November 2012, I participated in the inaugural conducting workshop at the University of Indianapolis. The clinicians were Vu Nguyen, professor of music at U Indy, and Stephen Pratt, Director of Bands at Indiana University. I conducted movements from Gustav Holst's First Suite in E-flat. (P)
