In December 2012, a fellow music education student and I decided to have an informal ad hoc conducting recital. We collaborated our resources to put together an ensemble of fantastic musicians, the majority of whom were students in the music school. For my friend and me, it became a great exercise in planning, organization, marketing and rehearsing efficiently. We chose quality literature from the standard repertoire that a good high school ensemble could perform.
Sicut Cervis, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina
This recording is from a performance at the fall 2012 Music Education recital at Indiana University. The ensemble is comprised of instrumental and vocal music education students. They are singing Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina's setting of Psalm 42, "Sicut Cervus."
"Blessed Are They" from A German Requiem, Johannes Brahms
This video is from a conducting course at IU in fall 2010. The piece is Barbara Buehlman's transcription of the first movement from Brahms' Requiem.
Friends of the Hawai'i County Band Advocacy Project
As part of the effort to save the Hawai'i County Band from being cut from the county budget in 2010, I wanted to show my support by raising awareness at IU. I worked with the G373 Advanced Conducting class to put together this video to send to the Hawai'i County Council. The video includes two pieces that the Hawai'i County Band plays at every monthly concert, Hawai'i Pono'i (the state song) and Hilo March. Michael Roberts, an IU student and fellow supporter, helped to realize this project.
